I am SO lazy

The thought hit me from out of nowhere.

Imagine this: It's a beautiful, sunny evening, I am in my kitchen cooking pasta alla norma ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ (try it if you haven't, it's amazing), glass of cold white wine in hand, "Florida" blasting out the speakers (because when two of your favourite artists decide to collaborate, it is exactly as good as you dreamed it would beโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ I digress).

And I think to myself: wow, I am so lazy.

It stops me cold in my tracks (or in this case, Taylor Swift's track ๐Ÿ˜œ) because it breaks my number one rule:

And yet there I went.

Here's what happened:

As I was frying the aubergine, my brain casually drifted off to all the things I am working on and want to get done over the next year ๐Ÿ“, including, but not limited to:

โžก๏ธ An in-person leadership development programme for women in senior leadership roles, a coach training programme, a leadership retreat in Kenya, new clients I want to land, a book I'd like to start, a new website that needs launching, etc., etc.

And I thought my gosh, you're getting nothing done - look at all these unfinished projects. I noticed, and then I did what I teach my client to do all the time: I redirected

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸผA redirect is a conscious effort to point your brain in a different and more constructive direction - or, as my amazing mum friends will say, it's like handing your toddler a cookie to make them stop screaming ๐Ÿช.

In this case, my redirect went like this: Uhm, another way to look at is that I set up a business from scratch with no external investment or support, and grew the top line by 500% in year 2, while being on the road for 150+ days a year, and oh, I haven't taken a full week's holiday in over a year (not proud, correcting as I write this).

I checked if my brain was satisfied with that response (silence.. it was) and then I went back to my evening ๐Ÿท.

That's all. Just a reminder that your brain will throw all sorts of stuff at you, and you never have to believe it, unless you want to.

What's your brain telling you today that you may want to redirect?

Ps. We have a few coaching slots available for a September start, in case you want to learn how to train your brain ๐Ÿง  - email athena@cn8.co.uk today to book a free consult.

And, if you'd like to make sure you're on the list to receive updates on all these exciting projects, make sure you hit follow, or send Athena a quick email with the word "I'm in". Our website is currently getting redone, and once it's back up, we'll be doing regular newsletters and all sorts of other goodies.

โ€œWhatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.โ€
